Guatemala Education Campaign
Goal = $107,325.00
Access to quality education in Guatemala is foundational to providing critical and realistic alternatives to irregular migration. Currently, forty percent of 6th graders reach standards in reading. The dropout rate for Guatemalan youth (ages 13-18 years) ranges from 40% to 61% before reaching high school. This lands them in a vulnerable position for trafficking, forced child labor, gang activity and irregular migration. Malnourishment drives much of the educational dropout rate.
Provide educational and nutritional investments ranging from primary school tutoring to vocational training that ensures youth have the necessary skills for life and work. All training and investments are implemented in the context of community relationships and mentorships and with the support of proper nutrition.
- Expand viable tutoring programs to return students to appropriate academic standards, post pandemic school shutdowns.
- Implement and expand vocational training opportunities in the areas of car mechanics, welding, cooking, and sewing.
- Fund transportation infrastructures that allow and keep students engaged.
