At Greater Calling and Gordon Food Services, we believe in the power of partnership and the potential for transformational change. Together, we have embarked on a remarkable journey in Guatemala.

It’s not just about philanthropy; it is about empowerment. We thank you for joining us on this journey of empowerment, as we celebrate the transformative power of Tailoring Hope and Shopping with Purpose.

Hadassa Moda

Hadassa Moda is a sewing group that consists of eight ladies in the Pueblo Modelo CarePoint community. All of the ladies have all successfully completed a two-year tailoring course and have learned to operate industrial sewing machines. The Hadassa Moda group currently operates out of Lucia’s home, which is somewhat of a tight squeeze with five industrial sewing machines and a heat press. Lucia and her husband truly places the well-being of the other woman as a top priority as they choose to sacrificially provide their living space to benefit their community.

Lucia Ramirez is a hard-working mother with two children. She is involved in many activities at the Pueblo Modelo CarePoint, one of which is the Hadassa Moda sewing group. Lucia completed a two-year training program facilitated by the local church eight years ago. During this time, she took advantage of an interest-free loan to buy a domestic sewing machine that she uses to provide tailoring services to her neighbors. Although Lucia did not make a lot of money, she was very satisfied that she made enough to pay the power bill, an expense that her husband usually covered. Since graduating, Lucia has regularly contributed to shirts, blouses, purses and other products made by the Hadassa Moda sewing group.

The Pueblo Modelo CarePoint

The Pueblo Modelo CarePoint is located in Zacapa, Guatemala. The CarePoint provides nutritional and educational support for the local public school that serves over 600 children. The program that partners with Greater Calling and Children’s HopeChest is in the local public elementary school, and the work in the community extends to building relationships local women and leaders. The Pueblo Modelo CarePoint is working toward providing a nutritious meal or snack every day for all the children at the school, and improving the general conditions of the school so the children will have a better place to learn. By doing this, the CarePoint will also impact families and the culture of the community.
